St John's Catch Up September: Littlewick Green
St John's Catch Up
Dear all,
This is one of 4 fantastic photographs taken by a professional photographer at dawn a few weeks ago.. Gill from Gill Williams Photography on the Isle of Skye, was visiting a friend in the village. She has kindly allowed me to place them on our web page. Have a look at the others on https://www.burchettsgreenparish.org/littlewick.html and go to our page, St John the Evangelist. Gill can be contacted at gill3167@gmail.com should you be interested in having a 30x20 cms print on Matte Aluminium. Gill charges just £50.
PROCEDURE FOR DEALING WITH INJURY AND ILLNESS DURING A SERVICE.
Those of you in church on 28th August would be aware that for the second time we have had someone not well and requiring an ambulance. We were able to continue the service after a pause. I am pleased to report that Kate returned from hospital later in the day, feeling much better. To provide a clearer set of guidance for use in such situations, I have prepared a simple procedure which has been approved by Tom. Copies can be found in the vestry desk and the bookcase .Sides people will also receive a copy so that we are all versed in what should be done and the order of actions. These are very rare occurrences and I have only experienced 3 in over 50 years so, please don’t worry.
THE COST OF FUEL CRISIS.
The energy crisis really came home to me last week when I needed to order oil for the church. The 1000ltrs cost £960 plus vat. 2 years ago it would have cost just £250!!! So I think we will pray for a mild winter and get more used to wearing jumpers and coats .
These are difficult times for all of us. Sandra and I ran an energy conservation company for some 32 years, retiring in 2012. For a number of years I was also a trustee of National Energy Action, a Fuel Poverty Charity based in Newcastle. So if you have any questions on saving energy, feel free to contact me. I am happy to help if I can.
CHRISTMAS CARDS....yes I did say Christmas cards!
With the cost of living crisis and pressures on household incomes, Sandra has recently been able to buy a large supply of Traidcraft Christmas Cards. She will be selling these in packs ......... all at HALF PRICE. So if you want to buy early and save money speak to Sandra on 822282. She will also be bringing them to the October coffee morning as well.
SUNDAY CLUB 4TH SEPTEMBER.
Once again, Sally, Helen and Vicky ran a lovely Sunday Club yesterday. The theme was Jonah and the Whale. 9 children came to Sunday Club with a younger 10th with JO his mum. I don’t know what they got up to but at one point I was called in to deal with a toilet almost overflowing. I think one of the young ones had found the electric flush button. If I see one of them carrying a toy boat, next time, I will know who the culprit was!!
The children came back into church, sat on the chancel step and told us what they had been doing. Tom loves this bit and the children’s interaction is definitely improving. This first Sunday service with Sunday Club, is so special. I know that Sally, Helen and Vicky put a lot of effort into planning and running the club, we are very grateful to them.
We have now purchased some more chairs for the cabin. These new ones are yellow and suitable for slightly old children. I can see us needing to buy more of these. The cost of the chairs is being covered by a grand from The Littlewick Sunday School Trust.
SEPTEMBER SERVICES.
Sunday 11th September at 4pm ............ Family All Age Service.

CHOIR.
St John’s has always had a choir and in the past, with many members. Thanks to Jenny and Tim for continuing to Robe and sing for us every Sunday. Tim tells me that he has been singing here for some 40 years! Yesterday they were joined by Pat Stearns, a new member of our congregation. Pat has sung in the choir of her old church and wanted to join Tim and Jenny. Pat tells me that she may have a few others who may join as well. So, with this feeling that we may be onto something, if there are any of you who would also like to sing in the choir, young or old, let us know and come and try it out.
FINALLY........
Sandra and I are away on our hols...a week in Sicily, from Wednesday back next Wednesday. John Johnson will be opening and closing the church as well as on duty on the 11th and the 18th when Sandra and I dress in 40’s style and head for The Goodwood Revival....great fun.
God Bless.
Richard.
