St John's Summer Catch Up: Littlewick Green
Dear All
I do hope you are enjoying the Summer. The weather in these past few months has been wonderful, albeit just a little hot! In St John’s we have placed water bottles on the side table for anyone who wants to pop in, listen to the music....Elizabethan Choral Music today... and find a cool spot. August is a time for holidays and this month we have had a series of Parish Services in all three churches. This coming Sunday 28th, we are again welcoming the Parish to worship in St John’s. Our service starts at 9.15, Tom is back from his hols and will be taking the service and Nigel, also back from his, will be playing for us. I do hope you will be able to come join us.
Our last service was on 31st July and was both a Parish service with Sunday Club. It was so nice to see so many of you there and the little ones, 11 in total enjoyed the ‘end of term’ party, as did we when they came back into church. Dilys invited them to come to the front and they all sang the Club Song, they had been learning. There is something quite special about the atmosphere when so many children are with us. Sally, Helen and Vicky are doing such a great job, I know they enjoy it as do the many children.
With the Sunday Club going from strength to strength, I have just bought some new chairs slightly bigger and in yellow. I am hoping they will be with us before the next meeting on Sunday 4th September. I have not yet heard what Sally, Helen and Vicky have planned but for sure it will be fun.
We are so grateful for all of our volunteers who do so much for St John’s, from those behind the scenes, who keep the church clean, provide us with such wonderful flower displays, provide the refreshments after each service, arrange rotas read and so much more. I am particularly grateful to all of you who have responded to our ‘call to arms’ and stepped up to join the team, in the last few months.
Can I just highlight where we would welcome more help.
I know that Viv would like to have a few more on the coffee rota so that we spread the load. Generally there are two on together ,perhaps a family for the 4pm All Age?
Rowena Upcott has done a wonderful job with the cleaning, covering off many months, this has released me from having to clean as well. I know Rowena really likes doing this but would be happy to chat to others who may like to offer some time. Again, if you wish it can be done by a couple.
I would like to see if we can find a few more to act as Side People, welcoming, handing out the books, ringing the bells, taking the collections and just being there to assist. In particular it would be really good if we could have a few of the younger ones offer to assist at the 4pm All Age Service on the second Sunday of each month.
If you are able to offer to help or would just like to chat through what is involved, please do contact me .
PLOTTING GRAVE POSITIONS AND NAMES.
We do have good records of who is buried in the churchyard, however, the information has become somewhat fragmented since last updated. From time to time I am asked to locate someone or a family. As the information is not as good as we would like, it would be great if someone would like to revisit this and do another survey of graves, placing them onto a new location plan. If you would like to help with this, have a chat with me and I can explain what’s needed. I should add that I do have the original plot layout plans that can be used as a template, they are around 95% accurate’
MAUREEN ROTHERY.
Maureen will be known to many of you. She was also a regular attendee at the village lunches. Unfortunately Maureen passed away recently and I have been asked to give details of her funeral. The Service will take place at 11am on 6th September at St Mary’s Wargrave. It will be followed by refreshments at Hennerton Golf Club. If you would like to attend, could you please let her son Tim know and his number is 07939219738. Our condolences go to Maureen’s family.
