OUR SERVICES
The Parish offers a range of services in our three churches. Find a service you know you will be comfortable with or look for a service which is new for you and come and join us. Our Church Wardens and sides-people are happy to offer guidance if you are unfamiliar with any of our services.
Festivals!
The Festivals (e.g. Christmas and Easter) will change the normal service pattern. The website will have full details.
Our Festival Services include:
CHRISTMAS
We prepare for Christmas by singing traditional Advent Carols. For families with children there are Christingle Services (the service with the orange and the candle in aid of the Children’s Society) and, on Christmas Eve, a Crib Service.
We also hold the popular service of Lessons and Carols and a Midnight Communion Service. There will be various opportunities around the Parish for all the family to celebrate together on Christmas morning.
LENT
We commit ourselves to a holy and disciplined Lent at an Ash Wednesday Communion Service which includes the imposition of ashes.
In March we celebrate Mothering Sunday.
EASTER
We begin our Easter celebration on Maundy Thursday at a communion service where the washing of his disciples’ feet by Jesus is re-enacted. At the end of the service the church is stripped of its decoration and we linger in the soft light of the church to spend time with Jesus in his hours of agony at the Garden of Gethsemane.
On Friday we gather to explore the meaning of the cross and also at a one-and-a-half hour Meditation we contemplate Jesus’ suffering for us on the cross. Easter itself begins with an Easter Vigil on Saturday when we light the paschal candles and renew baptism vows. On Easter morning Jesus’ resurrection is celebrated.
AUTUMN
We celebrate the abundance of the natural world and the hard work of our farmers at our Harvest Services and various Harvest Suppers around the parish.
At All Saints/All Souls we have a special service, the Commemoration of the Faithful Departed, at which we remember and give thanks for those we love but no longer see.
In November, at the annual Remembrance Day Services, we honour those who gave so much to our country in times of war.
