St John's Catch Up QUEEN ELIZABETH 11.

Dear All,

It was with such sadness that Sandra and I leant of the death of our dear Queen, whilst on Holiday in Sicily. We were able to follow the unfolding events on the BBC World Service. As many of you will know, we have placed a Book of Condolence at the back of St John’s for any one who would like to come in and leave their message. The peace within the church, with lights on and quiet music in the back ground, may help you reflect on an amazing life of service to the country. I will have the church open earlier than normal and shut it later than normal. If for any reason you are not able pop in during normal open times, please ring me and I will come and open for you at any time.

As a young lad, my Father took the three children up to the Mall a few days before the Coronation to look at the decorations and be part of that glorious celebration. The images have never left me.

At present our church has been dressed in Purple as a sign of Mourning and respect. Early on Monday Morning I will open the church and dress St John’s with the wonderful Coronation silks....that’s the actual silks that adorned Westminster Abbey in 1953! These will be left in place for the week so , come in and see a bit of history.

Tom has already said that if a number of people want to come to the Soltau Centre behind St James, on Monday, he will arrange to have the Funeral transmitted in the Hall. Tom mentioned this a few days ago in one of his very supportive daily emails, but so far there has been no one indicting interest. Should you wish to come to the centre would you please give Tom a ring on 822974.

This coming Sunday, we have a Family Eucharist at 9.15. I think Tom will be using a screen and as this service is just before the funeral, there will be much reflection on the life of Queen Elisabeth 11.

The sadness we all feel is deep. However, at this difficult time we are also able to reflect on the Queen’s long and dedicated life of service to her Country. Her strong Christian beliefs should also inspire us as we come to terms with our loss.

God Bless.

Richard.
