St. John’s Catchup
Dear All,
Looking back, the Sunday Club met for their last meeting before summer, on 2nd July. Vicky and Tina had arranged games and fun. Eight children came and had much fun. There will be no Sunday Club in August so, the next meeting will be on Sunday 3rd September. The Sunday club has now been running for almost 2 years and with the dedicated work of Sally, Helen and Vicky, has gone from strength to strength. We have had up to 16 children attending which is so exciting for our church and its future. The club started in October ’21 and some siblings too young then are now attending. If you would like your child to join in the fun and they are aged between 3 years and 10 years, do bring them along. The club meets at the 9.15 service on the first Sunday of the month. The Sunday Club is a very welcoming way to introduce Jesus into their lives.
Even allowing for Wimbledon and the President’s lunch on the green last Sunday, Tom had a lovely All Age service in the afternoon. Thanks to Lisa and Mark for arranging refreshments.
With the holiday period starting, although the Sun seems to have gone in as I write, the services for August will have changes. Tom has arranged for a Parish service on each of the Sundays , rotating between the three churches. These will be as follows.
6th August 10am. St John’s Littlewick Green. Family Communion Service.
13th August 11.30am St James, Stubbings. Hymns and Pimms. Service.
20th August 10am St Mary’s Hurley. Riverside Service.
27th August 10am St John’s Littlewick Green Family Communion Service.
HARVEST : A date for your diary. 8th October ’23.
Having not had a Harvest Supper during the Covid years , I was approached at the end of our Harvest service last year, by one of our young mums offering to help to organise one for this year. As a result of this conversation I quickly booked the village hall for the 8th October. The supper will follow our Harvest service in the afternoon. Carli, Lisa and Sandra are working on this and more information will follow after the hols.
FAMILY COMMUNION. This Sunday.
This Sunday at 9.15 we have our family communion service. Nigel is away on his holidays and Jonathan will be playing for us. We look forward to seeing you.
COMMUNITY FESTIVAL -HURLEY....another date for your diary: 3rd to 5th May 2024.
The festival is intended to be a community lead festival celebrating great music and other activities. It is hoped that all the villages will get involved and/or attend over that weekend. More information will follow but in order to get the ball rolling, a concert is being held in St Mary’s Hurley on 7th October this year. This is being arranged by Jonathan Miall and Nigel Wilkinson so you can expect it to be of a wonderful evening. The details are still being finalised and information and tickets are available via Tom.
And finally........................
CREATION CARE- love your burial ground.
Following ‘No Mow May’ Hannah Etherton and a small team set about exploring our churchyards...all three... to see how biodiverse each was. The results for our churchyard are as follows:
Plants: 44 species.
Trees/Bushes : 5 species.
Animals: 7 species.
To quote Hannah “ This was a wonderful opportunity to observe the majesty of God’s Creation around us”
We will be repeating the exercise next year so it will be interesting to see what changes.
Enjoy the Summer,
God Bless.
Richard
